- GLEN MCCULLOUGH glenm@thechronicle.com.au

Chinchilla Race Club and its supporters will be hoping for a turnaround in weather and track conditions this weekend when they look to celebrate a belated 2018 Chinchilla Cup race day.

Officials will look to get this year’s Christmas cup day off the ground on Saturday after last week’s meeting was washed out after 50mm of rain fell at the track overnight Thursday.

This week’s six-race card has been flooded with 103 nominations including 14 entries for the $15,000 Procrew Chinchilla Cup (1400m).

Saturday’s program also features the Craig Black Patron’s Cup (1030m) which has attracted a quality list of entries.

Darling Downs festive season

racing includes Saturday meetings at Clifford Park on the next two weekends before the track is closed for annual maintenance.

Racing resumes at Toowoomba on Friday, January 25.

Warwick Turf Club and Dalby & Northern Downs Jockey Club share some of the Downs TAB meeting schedule during Clifford Park’s absence.

The winner of the $20,000 Open Handicap qualifier is exempt from ballot, if eligible and nominated for the $30,000 Magic Millions Country Cup (1200m), at the Gold Coast on January 12.

First race on Wednesday’s Allman Park card is scheduled to jump at 1.08pm.

Warwick also conducts a seven-event TAB card on Saturday, January 19.
