Weather to hold as system stays

WARM, sunny weather was the ultimate present for many Toowoomba residents on Christmas Day, and it is set to continue into the new year.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Lachlan Stoney said it was likely Toowoomba residents would ring in 2019 with the same stable weather pattern.

“The weather will continue in a similar pattern to the last few days,” Mr Stoney said.

“There may be a touch more cloud, but it will still be sunny conditions.”

Mr Stoney said a change in weather patterns brought cooler conditions after last week’s heatwave.

“There was a change that moved through the area on the weekend which helped to clear the storms and hot conditions,” he said.

“Behind it was mild and stable air that will hang on for the next week.

“Right now, a high-pressure ridge is dominating much of the southern parts of the state, bringing with it stable weather and little rainfall.”

He said there would be a slight increase in temperature as the week ended.

“We are still working on our New Year’s forecast, but from what we can see it will be a touch warmer than the rest of the week,” Mr Stoney said.

“We are predicting a maximum of 31 degrees for New Year’s Eve in Toowoomba, and then 32 to 33 degrees in the days following that.”

Residents are advised to keep an eye on the BOM forecasts for any change.
