BLACKOUTS

-

ONCE again Cambooya has had a day of power outages. We have just suffered about 10 blackouts ranging from five seconds to three and a half hours, all in one day.

This backs up from a recent Wednesday where we suffered through a seven-hour blackout. On both occasions it was frustrating to see Wyreema blazing with light just a few kilometres away.

Back in the 90s, I was an electrical contractor based in Cambooya. On one of many previous occasions back then, that we had a blackout and when you could actually talk to someone at Ergon about the situation, I was informed that our supply meandered all over the country from Toowooomba through Clifton and Felton before coming back around to us and that we could be affected by power disruptions at any point along this line.

Ergon agreed to switch us onto the Wyreema feeder and for some time, we had reliable power.

About 18 months or so later, we started having blackouts again and I contacted Ergon again and was told that, because we had not had any power problems for so long, our power problems were solved so they had switched us back onto the original feeder that we were previously on.

Now, I defy anyone to find logic in this decision, but I wonder if the same scenario has again occurred, resulting in our current situation.

Considering the outrageous increases in our power bills, I expect platinum power supply, not the circus that we are currently experiencing. I would like answers as to why we are expected to live with unreliable power and Ergon doesn’t have to explain anything or compensate anyone.

Ergon, Cambooya residents are fed up.
