Former Aussie greats can’t handle the truth

-

CAMERON Bancroft gave the Australian public exactly what they wanted earlier this week.

Bancroft gave us David Warner – the man behind the Sandpaper Saga – the mastermind if you will.

In an interview with Fox Cricket’s Adam Gilchrist the banned Australian Test cricket opener said it was Warner who instigated the scheme in South Africa earlier this year.

He admitted his culpability as well but singled out Warner as the man who made the plan.

And now he is being “hauled over the coals” again – this time by former Australian cricketers.

Michael Slater has led the charge, chastising Bancroft for “burying” his teammate.

Slater also believes both Bancroft and Steve Smith are playing a calculated game to curry favour with the Australian public.

What I don’t understand is why?

Why are people like Slater questioning Bancroft for speaking the truth?

Maybe, it’s because they can’t handle the truth.

Maybe, they’d rather stick their head in the sand and pretend nothing happened.

Maybe, he (Slater) is hoping Warner will slide straight back into his opener’s role and we will start winning games. I hope not.

I hope Warner, Smith and Bancroft have to fight tooth and nail to get back into the Test team.

I hope they’re forced to play the best cricket of their lives before they’re considered for selection.

Why?

Because there is nothing they have/have not said, or potentially could say, that would justify their selection or the trust of their teammates. Simply put they cheated. Warner hatched the plan, and Bancroft and Smith went along with it.

They’ve lost the trust of their teammates and their actions from now on will be the only way to regain that trust.
