ALLROUNDER’S PERFECT FIFTY
Kimmince brings up a milestone
CRICKET: As another jampacked week of the women’s Big Bash continues, Warwick’s Delissa Kimmince has notched a significant milestone in the short form of the game.
The all-rounder, along with Brisbane Heat teammates Jess Jonassen and Beth Mooney, brought up 50 games in the teal during a dominant 66-run defeat of Sydney Sixers on Sunday.
Kimmince said it was an added bonus that the team was able to produce one of its finest performances to date for the occasion.
“We didn’t know about it to be honest. Someone mentioned it to us before the game, but it’s a great achievement,” Kimmince said.
“It was probably one of our best games in all the years we’ve played Big Bash, to beat a top team so convincingly. Everything went to plan, and we got the reward for it.”
The medium-paced bowler was clinical with the ball in hand, taking season-best figures of 2-12 as the Sixers were restricted to just 88 runs.
It continues the consistency of her bowling throughout WBBL04, with an economy rate at a touch worse than a run a ball.
She said keeping scoring off her bowling to a minimum was a priority in a competition as tightly contested as this.
“As a bowler you don’t want to get hit for boundaries,” she said.
“One thing I focus on is what ball I can bowl to the field.
“It’s one of those years again where anyone can win. Everyone has a chance of making it to the end of the season.”
The Heat took a step closer to sealing a finals berth on Wednesday evening when they defeated Perth, putting them in a share of second with the Sixers with five wins on the season.
After playing a role for Australia in their recent ICC T20 World Cup victory, Kimmince commended the support the women’s game had been able to receive, both at the national level and with the Big Bash.
“It’s amazing how much media attention the league has generated and how much the public has brought into it,” she said.
“It’s the beauty of the game. It’s a lot more exciting, and the games are entertaining and close.
“To see female cricket in Australia in its current state is awesome. There is still room to move and we want to keep going as much as we can.”
