Fundraising campaign is close to $30,000 goal

-

VOLUNTEERS from the Highfields Pioneer Village have nearly reached their GoFundMe goal of $30,000 for ongoing care for the village’s miniature pony Clementine who was attacked in November.

The group hosted a sausage sizzle to aid the campaign at Highfields Woolworths in Lauder Drive on Sunday.

The pony was mauled by two dogs in the early morning of November 5 and suffered damage to her face, nose, jaw, chin and under the elbow.

The village started the campaign shortly after the attack to raise funds needed for vet costs and new fencing and has raised about $25,700.

Highfields Pioneer Village volunteer Stephanie Darling said the fundraising event on Sunday went well.

“People are happy to help Clementine and she is recovering well, so we just want to raise enough money for a new fence for her,” she said.

Highfields Pioneer Village animal carer Carol Kleinschmidt said the village’s horses and poultry should be free to live without fear of being attacked.

“A security fence is the only way we can protect our furry and feathered friends from stray-dogs and foxes,” she said.

Ms Kleinschmidt said she was thankful to all the people who had donated to the fundraising page already.

“The volunteers’ goal is so much more a reality because of them,” she said.
