Plenty of Sweet Talk for new Toowoomba cafe

-

TAKING inspiration from cafes in Brisbane, Melbourne and even Bali for her new venture, Sweet Talk Coffee owner Lauren Janson-Roberts wants to create a conversation starter in the CBD.

The director of Cropt in Russell St said she was excited to see her new cafe flourish as the first tenant of the redeveloped Longs Quarter on Margaret St.

Ms Janson-Roberts said it took nearly 12 months of work to get the cafe up and running at the back of the building, fronting onto the Chronicle Arcade.

“It was probably in the last six months that it started to come to life,” she said.

Ms Janson-Roberts said she wanted to give Toowoomba residents a real experience when they entered the cafe.

“I think the cafe and coffee culture is definitely growing in Toowoomba,” she said.

“There are certain demographics that appreciate cafe culture if it’s done properly.

“I’ve got a couple of cafes in Melbourne, Brisbane and Bali that I drew inspiration from for Sweet Talk.”

With more clothing and food retailers expected to join Sweet Talk in the Longs Quarter, Ms Janson-Roberts said she believed Margaret St would benefit heavily from the introduction of new shops.

“The Longs Quarter has been great to deal with and in terms of doing the shop fit, everything was a breeze,” she said.

“There’s not much happening on this side of Margaret St, and it has died off a little bit.

“(But) the landlord has had a vision for what they want for the space.”

Sweet Talk Coffee opens today from 6.30am until the afternoon.
