Resort for your pooch Business is a barking success

- MARIAN FAA

AS FAMILIES pack up and head off for the holidays, a few lucky animals have found a second place to call home this summer.

Wagging tails, bright eyes and joyful barks are signs the first pooches are enjoying Warwick Pet Resort, which opened its doors in time for the year’s busiest period.

“People were ringing up and saying they were not able to find accommodation for their animals at all,” business coowner Peter Le Page said.

“We wanted to get moving so we could help people out and start taking some pets in.”

After four long years of planning, Mr Le Page was glad to see the resort get up and running even though there were more developments to finalise.

“In a very short period of time we basically had as much as we could handle for that Christmas through to early January period,” he said.

Building the new facility on Warwick’s outskirts was the logical next step for the animal-lovers.

“Looking after animals, the most important thing is they feel happy, relaxed and shown some attention,” Mr Le Page said.

“Little things like really being patient, using soft tones and encouraging them to come to you. We don’t try to force anything on them.”

With decades of experience in breeding, training and showing dogs, Mr and Mrs Le Page put their expertise into every aspect of the facility, from the design phase to interacting with the animals.

The kennels have been specially built to be cool, insulated and give dogs options between having their own space and socialising with neighbours.

Mr Le Page said he also took the dogs on walks to keep them active.

The Warwick Pet Resort is 10 minutes out of Warwick on the New England Hwy.

The facility cares for cats and dogs. Contact Mr and Mrs Le Page on 0490 901 149.
