Strangers help mum with new year ‘miracle’

- MARIAN FAA

‘‘ IT RESTORES MY FAITH THAT THERE ARE SO MANY GOOD PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO GO UNNOTICED.

TAYLA KENDALL

A MOTHER determined to give her children a brighter future in 2019 has called the help she received from strangers in Warwick a new year’s “miracle”.

After five years of living in a shed in New South Wales, finally being able to give her children a room, a backyard and a space to call their own was the Christmas wish Tayla Kendall thought would never come true.

Just three weeks ago, Miss Kendall had next to nothing.

On the brink of giving up on her dream of a fresh start, the mother-of-two put up a post on a Warwick-based community page asking for cheap furniture to help her move and was instantly blown away by the response.

“It restores my faith that there are so many good people out there who go unnoticed,” she said.

Donations of free furniture and even offers to transport, move and shift items means her home is now close to 100 per cent furnished for the new year.

For Miss Kendall, who said she had never owned much in her life and decided to move with limited finances, the generosity of Warwick residents will help her turn over a new leaf in 2019.

“I stopped believing in Santa and Christmas wishes years ago, but the end of this year has shown me something I will never forget again and always hold close to my heart,” she said.

“It showed me that wishes can come true and sometimes all it takes is a helping hand.

“This move means my children can have their own room, a backyard and it’s a bit of independence for me too. I wanted them to have their own home to grow up in.”

Ms Kendall said her children were already enjoying their new home.

Four-year-old Sebastian and three-year-old Janaye have been running around the yard and are looking forward to going to the park and the pool.

“Just three weeks ago I was on the edge of giving up as moving seemed impossible and I had nothing ... but for me, this is my miracle,” Miss Kendall said.

As she looks forward to her new life, she had words of support for other single parents.

“Never be afraid to put yourself out there and reach out for help on social networking sites because sometimes the outcome will be more meaningful than you imagined,” she said.

“It can start from something as simple as a post on Facebook. Shared by one, seen by thousands.”
