CRICKET: Brendan Dogget has wasted no time in making his presence felt for the Brisbane Heat.

After being overlooked during the Heat’s first three Big Bash encounters, the Toowoomba paceman was called in to the team for Saturday night’s fixture in Perth against the Scorchers.

He backed up the selectors’ faith, claiming a wicket and going for less than six runs an over as the visitors were able to restrict the Scorchers to just 135 runs.

The Heat were able to chase down the total with 10 balls to spare en route to a five wicket win, their first victory of the season.

Doggett took a while to find his areas, conceding nine runs off his opening over and three wides when being brought back into the attack.

He recovered superbly however, restricting Perth to just four runs in the 13th over, before his consistency was rewarded in the 16th.

A yorker shattered Hilton Cartwright’s stumps to leave the Scorchers at 4-90, and although crashing to the pitch awkwardly with a suspected hamstring injury after the delivery, he was able to complete his over.

KIMMINCE PRODUCES SEASON BEST

Delissa Kimmince unleashed her best performance of the women’s Big Bash League season to date, taking three wickets in the Heat’s 43-run defeat of the Adelaide Strikers on Saturday.

The Warwick player was unbeaten on five runs when Brisbane’s innings came to a close at 7-160, before she was able to do serious damage with the ball.

The medium-pacer broke the opening partnership of 75 runs when removing Devine in the 11th over for 39, before repeating the dosage just three balls later when sending Bates on her way (31).

She finished off her spell in style, bowling Betts out in the 17th over.

TOOWOOMBA PLAYERS FIRE AT COUNTRY CHAMPS

Toowoomba’s trio of Cam Brimblecombe, Chris Hall and Kris Glass have maintained their strong start to the Queensland Country at the Australian Country Cricket Championships.

Hall (37) and Glass (29) topscored while Brimblecombe (112 from four overs) in their opening five-wicket defeat of Western Australia in the T20 component.

Brimblecombe had five wickets and Hall added an unbeaten 42 runs on their way to a 30-run win over South Australia.

Unfortunately Queensland fell short in the T20 final against New South Wales.

The one-day competition is currently underway, with Queensland facing South Australia today.
