What you can expect this year
IN recent years Toowoomba has expanded its foodie scene exponentially, and it will continue to grow in 2019.
The Garden City will soon be home to a Greek restaurant, another Mexican chain, hopefully a huge American burger franchise, and the return of two city favourites.
Here is what we can expect this year in terms of new restaurant and cafes.
ZAMBRERO
Mexican chain Zambrero is set to open in Toowoomba next month.
It will join other popular eateries at Walton Stores.
Zambrero operates 189 stores around the world, with the majority in Australia.
Its menu is freshly-prepared, with a focus on modern, superfood ingredients, to bring new delicious flavours to Mexican favourites.
Through its Plate4Plate initiative, the company also donates a meal (consisting of rice, soy and dehydrated vegetables, fortified with a vitamin mix, specifically designed to supplement the diet of malnourished individuals) to someone in need for every burrito or bowl purchased.
SOUVLAKI GR
Toowoomba will soon be home to a Greek restaurant, one already tantalising the tastebuds of diners in Victoria.
The man bringing Souvlaki GR to Toowoomba is Sam Karagiozis, described on his website as a “serial entrepreneur and arguably Australia’s youngest property tycoon”.
Souvlaki GR sells authentic Greek food cooked on charcoal and offers dine-in, takeaway and delivery.
The location of the Garden City store is yet to be revealed but will seat 120 diners.
CARL’S JR
Toowoomba is being considered as a location for American burger chain Carl’s Jr as part of a massive expansion across Queensland.
Carl’s Jr and its Australian franchiser the Bansal Group has flagged the Garden City as a prime spot for another restaurant, food court tenancy or fuel station inline.
The ideal location, according to the Bansal Group, is on Ruthven St among other foodies.
There are already eight Carl’s Jrs in Queensland, and while nothing is confirmed yet, Toowoomba is certainly on the map and on the way to getting its very own.
CIOCCOLATO
Cioccolato was once located on the corner of Ruthven and Margaret Sts, but closed its doors mid last year.
Owners Adnun and Albab Khan planned to moved the chocolate restaurant to a new site in 2019.
Toowoomba’s original dessert cafe is making a comeback with the brothers promising a more convenient location and new desserts on the menu.
PRIMITIVO CHARGRILL RESTAURANT
Primitivo Chargrill, along with Cioccolato closed back in July.
But owners Adnun and Albab Khan assured residents they would be reopening when they found a new suitable location.
The restaurant is known for its tender, smoky meat cooked over charcoal.
THAI ON RUTHVEN
Thai on Ruthven will open in Toowoomba next month, joining other national brands at The Intersection.
It is owned and operated by Toowoomba Thai, one of the city’s top Thai restaurants.
The owners are getting Sydney based designers to fit-out the store.
Thai on Ruthven will open in mid-February.
