BASKETBALL: The Toowoomba Mountaineers are preparing to launch bids for state glory on the Gold Coast today, with two boys teams (division two and three) and a girls squad (division two) set to take part in the U18 State Championships.

After showing potential throughout the BQJBC stages, there is a sense of confidence in the chances of the trio of teams.

Boys division two coach Daryl Allen said a united team approach would put the rising stars in good stead.

“Team cohesion is a big thing for us. We want to get down there and have fun,” he said.

“We’ll be having a few team dinners to get to know each other better.

“Three quarters of the team has played together for the last three seasons, which helps with the one percenters.

“A key area for us will be our defence, it’s one of the big things that helps gets us over the line. The offence will come off in the end if you play great defence, you just have to be patient with it.”
