Mixed draw luck for city’s Millions trio

RACING: The luck of the draw proved mixed for Toowoomba contenders as they prepare for one of their biggest career moments at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Clifford Park gallopers Barefoot, Plumaro and Unconditional will all line up on Australia’s richest race day in their bid for Saturday’s $2 million Magic Millions Three-Year-Old Guineas (1400m).

Barefoot fared best of the trio at yesterday’s barrier draw when she came up with gate one for trainer Tony Sears.

The news was not so good for the Michael Nolan-trained Unconditional.

The Jet Spur gelding drew alley 14 in the 16-horse field but will jump from barrier 11 if the bottom four emergencies don’t secure a start.

Noted backmarker Plumaro drew gate 19 but the wide barrier won’t be viewed as a huge setback for the Kevin Kemp filly.

Early Guineas favourite with Ladbrokes is the Tony Gollantrained Outback Barbie (barrier three) at $2.60.

Barefoot is the shortest of the Toowoomba entries at $26 with Plumaro at $31 and Undconditional $51.

Meanwhile Darling Downs first-season sire Better Than Ready will have four runners in Saturday’s $2 million Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic (1200m).

The Lyndhurst Stud Farm and leading Australian freshman stallion will be represented by The Odyssey ($21), Betaima ($67), Better Reflection ($15) and Girls Are Ready ($21).

Sydney filly Exhilarates ($5) holds early Classic favouritism after drawing barrier nine in the 16-horse field.
