ADELE and Daniel Radcliffe are just some of the stars who have drawn on singer Jeanie LoVetri’s vocal knowledge, and now Toowoomba singers can add themselves to the list.

More than 40 people attended the first day of the The LoVetri Institute for Somatic Voicework at USQ yesterday, a nine-day program that teaches vocal awareness.

Ms LoVetri, who is based out of New York, said she felt honoured USQ was hosting her sessions.

“When Dr Melissa Forbes (of USQ) told me to come to Toowoomba - I was like oh, ok, where is that?” she said.

“But when I visited two years ago I had such a wonderful time - I love Australia.

“I have gained the trust of students through the support of the university.”

Much of Ms LoVetri’s course is focused on how singers use their voices in different music genres, and how students can find and harness their own sound.

Ms LoVetri’s method is world renowned. She worked with Adele on the day she returned from hiatus and helped Daniel Radcliffe to prepare for Equus, a Broadway musical.

Singing teacher Jessie Parsons was one of the musicians hoping to learn the method.

“I first heard about the method through Dr Melissa Forbes, here at USQ,” Ms Parsons said.

“I missed her course the first time she came, and I was adamant that wouldn’t happen again.

After two hours of the course, Ms Parsons said she was feeling more confident.

“It solidifies a few of the ways I have been teaching.”
