Stickers seeking clue on killer reach Toowoomba

HUNDREDS of bumper stickers honouring the memory of murder victim Toyah Cordingley have made their way to Toowoomba, and now further afield.

Miss Cordingley’s body was found on Wangetti Beach, north of Cairns, on October 22 last year, where she had gone to walk her dog.

The murder shocked the nation and prompted a huge outpouring of support from the beach community where she lived, many of who pushed for answers in the still unsolved case.

One such community member was Wayne Prong Trimble, a friend of the family who, in the weeks following the tragedy, started to produce ‘Honour Toyah’ bumper stickers to raise awareness.

The stickers are hard to miss, decorated Toyah’s favourite flower, a sunflower bloom, and carrying the slogan “The Community Will Never Give Up’.

Since production they have been distributed across the country, with multiple posts on Facebook discussing the allocation in Toowoomba.

In an interview with The Chronicle, Mr Trimble said he was happy to hear the stickers were catching on in Toowoomba.

“I thought (the stickers) would reach Townsville, maybe Mackay - but within a few weeks they had gone outside of Queensland,” he said.

“Every time I see one of the stickers I think of her, but also of different things, like her family, her dog and her car. And that is what everyone else thinks too - it keeps her memory alive.

“(Her family) love the stickers. They would help to cut up sheets of them and then go out and distribute them.”

Mr Trimble had produced 70,000 stickers with help from the community and donations, but has predicted the total number in circulation to be close to 250,000.

“We have had people calling us from across the country asking if they could print some stickers,” he said.

The stickers have been spotted as far north as Darwin, but have also been distributed in the United States and England.

Mr Trimble has been told that it was one of the greatest community inputs into a criminal investigation in Australian history.

Those looking to support the cause can find more information on the Honour Toyah Facebook page.
