KERB APPEAL

HOW TO TURN A HOME THAT’S THE UGLY DUCKLING ON THE BLOCK INTO A SWAN

- WORDS: CHARLIE ALBONE SELLING HOUSES AUSTRALIA

If you want to attract buyers, the front of your house has to have street appeal. But what if you’re stuck with the only ugly duckling on the block?

Here are few simple ways you can minimise the impact, without breaking the bank:

Have a good look around and see if there’s anything that needs fixing or tidying. A number of unfinished little jobs can suddenly look like a big job.

A NEW HUE

A lick of paint is by far the most effective way to inject new life into a property. It can transform a dull dated exterior.

If you’re not sure what colour to choose, have a look around at similar homes in your area and see what works for them.

Don’t neglect the fence and windows. It’s no good going to the effort of painting the house if the other areas are faded and peeling.

GO GREEN

A heavily concreted yard or driveway may be practical, but it’s not very pretty.

Replacing concrete with turf makes the front of a property more inviting and homely. But remember to keep your lawned areas watered and tidy. Dead grass, overgrown pathways and weeds speak volumes to potential buyers.

KEEP IT TIDY

If the outside of your house looks a mess, potential buyers may think the inside will be the same and pass it by.

New plants are great for hiding a multitude of sins. They can smarten up most gardens.

The impact of unsightly posts or pillars can be reduced with large pots and new plants, and if you’ve got time to grow them, creepers.

Remember, kerb appeal has never been more important.

With a little effort your ugly duckling can be transformed into a beautiful swan, and buyers will love it.
