Western Districts spinner Cam Brimblecombe has been rewarded for a stellar showing at the Australian Country Cricket Championships.

The former Queensland Bulls player was chosen in the Australian Country side as a result of his unstoppable bowling throughout the tournament.

Brimblecombe was Queensland’s leading wicket-taker (fifth overall), was one of only three bowlers in the entire tournament to finish with a five-wicket haul, and produced the best figures of any bowler (5/17).

Fellow Toowoomba player Chris Hall impressed with the bat throughout the championships, taking honours as Queensland’s leading runscorer.

Hall’s 205 runs put him well clear of the next best Queenslander (Mitchell English, 155) and he also finished the week with an average of 34.17 (fourth overall).

After going down to New South Wales in the final of the T20 portion of the competition, Queensland Country split their four 50-over matches to finish third.

In the overall standings, Queensland Country came in third on 15 points behind Western Australia (24) and Victoria (19).

DOGGETT MAINTAINS HOT FORM

Toowoomba’s Brendan Doggett has again played a leading hand in the success of the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League.

On Sunday night the quick took three wickets as the Heat recorded the second-biggest win in BBL history, smashing the Melbourne Renegades by 101 runs.

The Heat set up a mammoth run chase for the home side, with Mark Bryant, Brendon McCullum and Chris Lynn combining for 179 as they posted a total of 4/192.

Doggett produced the wicket of opener Mackenzie Harvey and conceded just five runs in his opening two overs, before cleaning up the final two wickets in his third over.
