EQUESTRIAN: Focus, hard work and dedication has paid off for The Glennie School equestrian team.

Last year a group of talented young riders secured Glennie their sixth-straight Darling Downs equestrian title and their first Queensland win since 2014 – results that contributed greatly to their being named Equestrian Queensland’s 2019 School of the Year.

Equestrian team captain Sarah-Jane Coggan said the win was the result of a lot of hard work and welcome support from the Glennie community.

“It’s a great thing to be recognised on any stage,” she said.

“The whole team rode well last year and everyone worked really hard.

“I think the support we got really helped as well.

“It was nice to know there was always someone there in the crowd supporting you – family, friends, team-mates – we really focused on supporting each other.”

The school’s win is all the more impressive considering they had a smaller than usual team of riders.

Working in their favour was the fact those riders competed numerous disciplines.

“Riders earn points for the school every time they compete,” team sponsor and longtime support Paul Reedy said.

“The team we had last year was a little smaller than usual, but they were very talented and competed in a variety of disciplines – they did really well in eventing which was impressive.”

Preparing for the 2019 season, Coggan is confident the team can retain their title.

“I think we just have to be patient,” she said.

“Tick all the boxes as we go along and set ourselves lots of little goals along the way.

“I’d love for us to win this award again.”
