Tabletop rescue
EMERGENCY services were thrust into a dramatic rescue operation yesterday morning after a man in his 20s fell on Toowoomba’s Tabletop Mountain.
A Queensland Ambulance Services spokesman said two paramedics scaled the mountain after reports at 9.25am that a man had fallen “about 10 metres”.
From there, a rescue chopper arrived and winched the man to safety, he was eventually transported to the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition suffering wrist, ankle and potential lower back injuries.
It is understood the man was hiking with friends and was a treated for possible fractured ankle, as well as cuts and abrasions on board after an aeromedical crew landed on top of the mountain before walking 100m to the scene.
