Stinky start to day as manure spills on road

-

WORKERS had a stinky start to the day after a load of manure spilled from a truck on Toowoomba’s western outskirts.

Toowoomba Regional Council workers had shovels at the ready to clear the deep and pungent manure from the busy Torrington road after the spill just after 8.15am yesterday.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews were initially tasked to the incident on Carrington Rd near Taylor St with reports a trailer had rolled.

But on arrival - and to relief of responding crews - the trailer remained upright and there were no injuries.

However the mess caused a driving hazard with police called on for traffic control.

The incident swiftly became the butt of several jokes including from the Queensland Police Service which raised the controversial “Poowoomba” title for the Garden City and threw in a cheeky emoji for good measure.

“A truck has had a little ‘accident’, dropping a load on Taylor Street,” the QPS posted on social media.

“Traffic might be a little constipated, please seek an alternative route.

“The Forensic Crash Unit is looking for skid marks.”

Traffic built up quickly in the heavy industrial area while workers toiled in the morning heat to clear the load.

The cause of the spill was yet to be determined.
