LIVING a plant-based diet is more popular than ever before across the Garden City.

The Vegans in Toowoomba group is taking part in Australia’s Largest Vegan BBQ 2019, which is an initiative of Farm Animal Rescue.

Farm Animal Rescue is a place of refuge for animals that have been rescued from abuse and factory farms.

Throughout barbecues across the country, the organisation hopes to raises $5000 to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home farm animals.

Everyone is invited to attend the event from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, February 24 at Officeworks and organiser Carly Middap said it was a great way for people to show support for animals.

“Toowoomba is a compassionate community. All you need to do is look and see strangers helping one another out in times of need,” she said. “For us to come together to help animals demonstrates we care.”

She said a big misconception was that vegan food was just for vegans.

“Anyone can enjoy our delicious barbecue and the other treats we will be selling on the day,” she said.

“We will have the standard sausage sizzle with bread, onions, and sauce. The only difference is that the sausages are cruelty-free. We will also have ice-creams so it’s perfect for a summer Sunday. We have had incredible support from local businesses.”
