PEACEFUL Humans founder Genevieve Allpass is looking forward to the launch of two new programs to help Toowoomba women connect with each other.

The community organisation will launch its Woolly Warriors and Women’s Social Group for 2019 in early March to help women overcome feelings of isolation.

Mrs Allpass said the programs were designed to give women who felt isolated or wanted to give back to the community an outlet and a space for them to come together.

“The Woolly Warriors program is for women who like to knit and crochet items for people in need in our community,” she said.

“The second group will be made up of women from various backgrounds such as women who have come from domestic violence situations, women who have cancer, women who have moved from long distances and are having trouble making friends and more.”

Peaceful Humans started about four years ago primarily as a social inclusion project to help women connect.

“People underestimate how debilitating loneliness can be and how it affects you and your family,” Mrs Allpass said.

“Loneliness is a terrible thing for anyone to go through because with that loneliness comes sadness.”

According to the Relationship Australia’s 2017 Loneliness report, about 34 per cent of the female respondents reported they felt lonely.

Mrs Allpass said the programs would be launched on Wednesday, March 6.

“The Woolly Warriors program will be launched at the Toowoomba City Library while the Women’s Social Group will hold their first meeting at Picnic Point,” she said.

Women who are interested in joining either group can find more information at thepeacefoundation.com.au.
