Mum turns pregnancy bumps into artwork

- JIORDAN TOLLI

A NEW trend of painting pregnant bellies is more than just a fad for Tegan Marschke who wants to encourage self-love and healing for expectant mothers.

The stay-at-home mum and artist said belly painting was becoming an increasing sensation on social media, and was a special way for women to embrace their growing bellies.

“A lot of women get self-conscious when their bellies are that big. They feel uncomfortable and down,” Mrs Marschke said.

“The paint hides their stretch marks and insecurities and really makes their bellies a beautiful canvas.

“I think it’s so beautiful and I hope they feel beautiful.”

Although the paintings are paid for by Mrs Marschke’s clients, they aren’t the only ones who get something out of it.

After two miscarriages in the past year, the young mum said the painting also gave her a much-needed creative outlet.

“It lets me clear my mind and do something for me,” she said.

“It’s personal for me and helps me have faith in falling pregnant with my own again.

“It gives me hope. I look at these women and they’re so excited and I hope that’s going to be me one day soon.

“Pregnancy is a blessing that a lot of women can’t do, so it’s nice to celebrate that and make a memento out of it.”

She said the face paint used was non-toxic and safe for both mums and bubs.
