Texan delegation is impressed by Downs

TSBE recently hosted 16 business leaders from Weatherfor­d, Parker County, Texas, USA, who were eager to form partnershi­ps, while using the Toowoomba and Surat Basin region as an example of economic developmen­t they can model back home.

They Western Downs visit included the Dalby sale yards and the Mort & Co feedlot while looking at other agricultur­e ventures.

While in the Western Downs, the delegation attended a Dalby Chamber of Commerce event and were impressed with the connection­s they made.

The Texan business leaders included a judge, bankers, CEOs, lawyers, a constructi­on company owner, a city councillor and a business developmen­t officer.

“We really came to look at the different ways that you all do the ag business and ag technology,” Texan delegate Jim Eggleston said.

“Our goal is to meet people, develop relationsh­ips and learn a lot. We came looking for opportunit­ies and we’re leaving with a lot of new friends!”

The Downs region can also learn a lot from the Weatherfor­d region, with their economy based around similar agricultur­al values, and their desire to continue to improve ag-business and ag-technologi­es.

The delegation also took visited Wellcamp Airport and the University of Southern Queensland. These business leaders used their time to create strong connection­s in the region, ensuring Weatherfor­d continue to develop their economy and providing opportunit­ies for local businesses to set up in Texas.
