This year has been heralded The Year of Outback Tourism with a packed event calender, including these highlights:

JULIA CREEK DIRT N’ DUST FESTIVAL

April 12 – 14: Kick up some dust dancing to local and internatio­nal artists, watch cowboys being tossed from the back of bucking bulls, and laugh as mud-laden larrikins snorkel their way through bog pits.

ROMA’S EASTER IN THE COUNTRY

April 18 – 22: A five-day celebratio­n of all things country, now in its 40th year, showcases the history and lifestyle of regional Queensland.

2019 GLENCORE GREAT WESTERN GAMES

June 22 – 30: The Great Western Games will take you through architectu­rally rich historic towns to dinosaur centres following in the footsteps of Australia’s droving heroes as local towns between Charters Towers and Mount Isa host athletes from near and far.

WINTON’S VISION SPLENDID OUTBACK FILM FESTIVAL

June 28 – July 6: Winton is fast becoming known as the “Hollywood in the Outback” thanks to the events of Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival and having several major film production­s filmed there.

BIRDSVILLE BIG RED BASH

July 16 – 18: It’s said to be an experience of a lifetime at the world’s most remote music festival, the Birdsville Big Red Bash. The three-day festival is held at the Big Red desert dune near Birdsville.

MOUNT ISA MINES RODEO

August 9 – 11: It’s non-stop rodeo action. Competitor­s from all over Australia and internatio­nally vie for Australia’s richest rodeo prize pool.

COBB & CO FESTIVAL (SURAT BASIN)

August 23 – 25: Come to the Maranoa to celebrate the last run of the Cobb & Co Coach service in Australia along the Cobb & Co Way. Book a seat on the horse-drawn coach for a section of the historic route, bring a horse and team up with the trail ride, or join the celebratio­n in event transport. This family friendly event retraces the 76km route of Cobb & Co Mail Service No 177.
