TGS eager to halt rival’s run

CRICKET: A confidence boosting success in the Tom Allen Memorial Trophy match has Toowoomba Grammar up and about ahead of their latest GPS assignment.

After facing a tough Gregory Terrace side a fortnight ago, today’s task at Mills Oval is another challenge, coming up against an undefeated Ipswich Grammar School side.

Despite being outplayed first-up, coach Steven Fryer said the team was able to take a lot out of their comprehensive defeat of Downlands last weekend.

“They’re a great group of cricketers, and they always bring confidence and fun at training,” Fryer said.

“I’m mostly hoping we take the positivity out of the way we batted (against Downlands), and hope we are just as positive today.”

After making a return last weekend, Harry Weir will play a key role in Toowoomba’s bowling attack against Ipswich.

“Harry got though some overs last weekend which were his first in a few months,” Fryer said.

“I hope he’s a bit stronger after that and can make a difference. He is by far the strongest bowler in the game today.

“He has had a few little injuries along the road for the past six months. He got through six overs last week and we’re hoping he can get through 10 today.

“It makes a huge difference having the spearhead for an attack. It allows us to attack at one end and form some partnerships from then.”
