Toowoomba one of the state’s best

TOOWOOMBA was the seventh smartest region in Queensland when it came to the percentage of students scoring between an OP1 and 5 last year.

New analysis of OP data by News Corp has revealed out of the 1108 OP eligible students in the Garden City last year 230 of those achieved between an OP1 and 5, 20.76 per cent of the OP student body.

Longreach was the top performing region in the state, followed by Brisbane City, Mareeba, Maranoa, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.

Of the 54 local government areas in Queensland, Winton was the worst performing region with OP eligible students in the state, followed by Torres, Cook, Cloncurry, Balonne and Goondiwind­i.

Toowoomba’s Centenary Heights State High School was also one of the most improved schools in Queensland, compared to 2008.

In 2008 the school placed 132 in the state ranking of best OP results, where as in 2018 the school placed 92nd, a jump of 40 places, making it the 11th most improved school in Queensland.

In Toowoomba, the school was the top performing state school of 2018 and the fifth best performing school of all schools in the region. 23.4 per cent of OP students received between an OP 1 and 5.

Fairholme College was the top performing school of the Toowoomba region with 32.1 per cent of students receiving an OP1 and 5, following by Darling Downs Christian School, Toowoomba Grammar School and The Glennie School.
