Teaching excellence recognised

FROM financial literacy to tax law, a University of Southern Queensland teacher has found an award-winning way to teach students challenging subjects.

USQ Senior Lecturer Dr Toni Chardon has been awarded a 2018 Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning as part of the Australian Awards for University Teaching program.

The national awards recognise the impact that educators have on the learning and teaching experiences and outcomes of university students.

“It is a significant award and very humbling,” Dr Chardon said

“I appreciate all of the support and encouragement I have been given by USQ, as well as the feedback from my students over many years to make this happen.”

For 15 years as a tertiary educator, Dr Chardon has brought innovative and socially impactful ideas and experiences to USQ’s multimodal classrooms.

“My philosophy has always been to motivate students by sharing my enthusiasm with them,” Dr Chardon said.

“It’s about making somewhat complex subjects interesting by linking them with real word relevance. Personalising the subject learning and focusing on why it is important.

“Through sharing our own passion and experiences we can positively impact the way they apply their learning in their professions.”
