Final hours to vote for Spotted Cow as regional venue finalist

-

PHIL Coorey can easily rattle off a list of big name bands which found their early feet playing live gigs at The Spotted Cow.

From Violent Soho to The Smith Street Band and Gang of Youths, the Ruthven St venue has been one of choice for up-and-coming bands.

That credibility has been recognised with The Spotted Cow being named a finalist in the 2019 Queensland Music Awards Regional Venue of the Year.

And it’s down to the public vote from here on in, with the popular publican keen to secure support.

“Looking at some of the venues that have been nominated like Solbar and NightQuarter, they’re great venues,” he said.

“It’s an award I’ve always kept an eye on because, you know for argument’s sake, DZ Deathrays are coming up, a really great Queensland band, and Amy Shark’s doing really well, Ballpark, they’re all Queenslanders, just doing so well, and we’ve been really fortunate.

“I think when bands come here it’s a whole experience as well.

“There’s been bands on Triple J where they talk about mum cooking for them all (at the Cow).”

With Blank Space being added to The Spotted Cow’s venue offerings, success at the awards could be a catalyst for bringing more big-name acts to Toowoomba.

“We’re going to push hard for people to vote for us because it’s such a big awards night,” Mr Coorey said.

“I think we’ll use it as a catalyst. I’m really excited about that.”

Voting closes at midnight tonight.
