A roundabout solution
Govt funds to upgrade our roads
A BUSY Rangeville intersection will receive a $700,000 roundabout under federal funding on recommendation from the Toowoomba Regional Council.
Groom MP John McVeigh said commuters through Perth and Cohoe Sts would benefit from the safety upgrade, funded through the Black Spots program.
“I think this is fairly significant,” Dr McVeigh said.
“I can relate to it as a kid quite some years ago who went to St Joseph’s College around the corner.
“This intersection was busy then, it’s busier now and a roundabout which will incorporate significant works on the drainage system here given how Perth St is shaped, and (it) will be a significant improvement.”
He said the TRC had identified the intersection for a safety upgrade, and the $700,000 funding would be fully funded by the Federal Government.
Works on the intersection upgrade will fall to the TRC which is expected to soon start planning for the development.
“I’m hoping they will progress with these works as soon as possible,” Dr McVeigh said.
He said $476,000 had also been allocated for safety signage and culvert works on Umbiram Rd at Wyreema under the program.
Those works, between Wittaker Rd and Wyreema-Athol Rd, will include warning and hazard signs, barrier line and edge lines, guide posts and the installation of a traversable headwall.
“None of these projects would be delivered without the community’s vital input and I’d encourage all residents and motorists in the region to nominate projects for future funding rounds,” Dr McVeigh said.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said Queensland would receive $12.562 million under the latest round of Black Spot program funding.
