Tools for efficiency

- DAVID THOMSON Growcom CEO

GROWCOM is again proudly partnering with the Queensland Agriculture Workforce Network (QAWN) to help farm businesses reduce risks and increase their efficiency and compliance through a series of workshops across Queensland.

The highly-regarded Workplace Essentials workshops are hitting the road for the fourth consecutive year to visit major production regions including Goondiwindi, St George and Roma, Beerwah, Bowen and Bundaberg.

The full-day workshops, funded by the Queensland Government through the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, will cater to the needs of each region with an overall focus on workplace relations, understanding labour hire licensing and improving workplace health and safety.

So far the response to the program has been overwhelming, with more than 630 farmers attending a workshop between 2016 and 2018.

The program has achieved resounding success with 98 per cent of participants stating the workshops helped identify gaps in current practices and 99 per cent of participants stating they would be implementing workplace management improvements as a result of what they had learnt.

The 2019 workshops will be presented by a team of industry experts, including well-respected industry consultants Donna Mogg and Rebecca Fing, as well as representatives from QAWN,

WorkCover Queensland, AustSafe/Sunsuper and the Office of Industrial Relations.

Our own Fair Farms Program manager Thomas Hertel will also be giving an overview of the Fair Farms Program at the Beerwah and Bowen workshops.

We encourage growers to attend one of these workshops so they can gain a clearer understanding of where the gaps are in their policies and practices.

Participants will be provided with industry relevant best-practice resources to help address those gaps and establish positive practices in their workplaces.
