The information request raised issues around the prouse”. posed development being inconsistent with the planning scheme, with the council officer noting it had the potential to erode the role and intent of the Highfields Town Centre.

In response, the developer said the intent of the shopping centre was “to provide a small group of small commercial tenancies on a site already containing a commercial shop The developer said the tenancies were highly likely to attract “tourist sales” and thus provide services and products to tourists and support surrounding tourist-oriented uses. Public submissions close on March 14.

To make a submission on the development, email development@tr.qld.gov.au with the reference MCUI/2018/3970.
