City jewellers to close

After 16 years Toowoomba business to bow out with series of sales

AFTER 16 years in Toowoomba, Central Jewellers will close its doors for good at Easter.

The Duggan St store’s owner Brenda Andrews said their section of the retail industry had become too taxing and so it was time to close and move on.

“We’ve been at this location for four and a half years and before that we were in Grand Central,” Mrs Andrew said.

“But sales practices have changed and people these days are accustomed to buying only when things are on sale.

“People want the quality product but they don’t really want to pay the price.

“And there is a lot of online buying these days as well.

“But there are still a lot of good jewellers in Toowoomba and I hope the people will support them.”

Mrs Andrews said through she had built up close relationships not only with staff but with regular customers.

“We have our regulars who come and buy,” she said.

“The saddest part of closing is losing touch with staff and the customers all of whom have been great.”

The store will hold a series of closing down sales.

“All of the merchandise has to go and we’ll be offering good deals on everything from giftware to crystal, diamonds, jewellery, clocks pieces,” she said.

Mrs Andrews had not made any formative plans for life after Central Jewellers.

“I’m not sure what I’ll do, my husband Steve is still working in Toowoomba,” she said.

“We’ve got a house we’re trying to sell so I’ll spend some time on that.” and one-off
