Weight loss journey an inspiration

CHARLIE Bartlett was sick of being overweight, and her decision to become fit and healthy has changed her life.

The 24-year-old Toowoomba woman weighed 110kg at her heaviest, and is currently at 78kg - just 8kg away from her goal weight.

Miss Bartlett wanted to get fit, but at the start she was too afraid to join a gym, so instead she walked - a lot.

“I started walking, probably about 20,000 steps a day. I was too scared to go to a gym at the beginning so it was my first type of exercise,” she said.

“I stopped eating processed food, didn’t have any sugar and drank a lot of water.”

She now trains at PLC Toowoomba, a functional fitness centre mixed with CrossFit, and feels much more confident with herself.

“Using a mix of cardio and weight lifting has helped me accelerate my fitness,” she said.

“My gym plans a new workout every day. Box jumps, battle ropes, dead lifts, sit ups, chin ups and a lot more.

“I do a different workout every single day, and every workout involves lifting weights.”

When people start their weight loss journey, often their first thought is to do a lot of running but Miss Bartlett said she couldn’t remember the last time she was on a treadmill.

“My cardio is when I climb Table Top Mountain,” she said.

“I try to climb it at least once a week but sometimes I’m super motivated and climb it four times in a week. It’s the best workout and completely free.”

She said she loved how happy fitness made her feel.

“Being able to push myself and do things I never thought is amazing,” she said.

“My advice to anyone wanting to start is don’t be afraid to join a gym and ask the personal trainers questions.”

Miss Bartlett wants to inspire people to live healthier, happier lives and she does so through her Instagram page Charliegetsfit_.

She shares her journey through before and after photos as well as snaps of her meals.

“I love being in a position where I can inspire other people to lose weight,” she said.

“Do not give up. Wake up everyday and try your best because it will be worth it.”
