Mustangs ready for round one

-

RUGBY LEAGUE: After a long wait, the Western Mustangs have named their first competition teams to take the field in season 2019.

The Hastings Deering Colts (U20s) and Mal Meninga Cup (U18s) competitions begin on Saturday, with the Mustangs facing a tough task against Tweed Heads in their opener at the weekend.

U20s coach Eugene Seddon said while the team was still down on troops, confidence remained high of first round success.

“Blake Cullen is a big addition,” Seddon said.

“He missed the game against Wynnum Manly after picking up an injury against Souths Logan.

“We will still be missing Tom Springate, Bailey Williams and Alex Dunemann, but we’re reasonably confident the 17 going out there can get the job done.”

Southern Suburbs U18s premiership winner Sam Thompson will partner alongside Laurie Jocumsen in the halves.

“Laurie doesn’t have any trial form, but I worked with him in the U18s two years ago, and we’re happy to put him in,” he said.

“He will support Thommo who has been impressive throughout the pre-season.” MUSTANGS TEAM LISTS U18S: 1. Dylan Flanagan, 2. Alex Brighton, 3. Oliver Moy, 4. Dylan Brassel, 5. Patrick McGinn, 6.
