MOTOR CYCLING: Ten titles are up for grabs this weekend when the 2019 Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship gets under way near Toowoomba.

Toowoomba Motor Cycle Club hosts rounds one and two of this year’s titles at the club’s Murphys Creek complex on Saturday and Sunday.

Australia’s leading off-road riders — including reigning E1 Champion, Luke Styke (Active8 Yamaha Yamalube) — will compete over the two days of competition as they look to make a flying start to their racing year.

Riders from every state and territory, with the exception of Northern Territory, will be present.

Toowoomba Motor Cycle Club president Russell Bentley said gaining hosting rights for the opening championship rounds is a welcome addition to the club’s annual calendar.

“We were invited to host the first two rounds about six weeks ago when a previous promoter opted out and we jumped at the opportunity,” Bentley said.

“There are 10 rounds during the year from venues in Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales to Toowoomba.”

Bentley said around 250 competitors are expected for the weekend racing.

“Competition stretches across both days with round one on Saturday and round two Sunday,” Bentley said.

“For those arriving early there is a track-walking opportunity on Friday.

“Teams from all the major brands will be here for the weekend.”
