Classes see 50c/kg decline
ROMA
CATTLE numbers fell by 1606 head to 6318 at the Roma Store Sale. Cattle were drawn from a wider supply area and a fair panel of buyers was present and operating. Over half of the yarding consisted of steers. The quality was mixed and again included younger cattle, evident of the continuing dry season. Prices eased further from last week with cows experiencing the most substantial price falls. Lightweight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers fell by 9c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed also fell by 9c/kg. However heavy weight yearling steers to feed rose by 2c/kg. Lightweight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers fell between 27c and 28c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers fell by 20c/kg. Medium weight two score cows fell by 27c, while the limited numbers of medium weight three score cows fell by 46c/kg. Heavy weight three score cows fell by 44c/kg.
Lightweight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers sold to 260.2c to average 234c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 266.2c to average 248c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to a top of 264.2c to average 254c/kg. A sample of quality lightweight yearling heifers under 280kg to background or feed sold to 200.2c to average 200c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers sold to 211.2c to average 198c/kg.
Heavy weight grown steers under 600kg sold to a top of 242.2 to average 242c/kg. The best of the grown heifers under 540kg made to 200c to average 190c/kg. The largest sample of medium weight two score cows sold to 135c to average 122c, while the medium weight three score cows made to a top of 162.2c to average 155c/kg. Heavy weight three score cows made to 181.2c to average 166c/kg.
WARWICK
NUMBERS increased by 398 to 2,563 head, the largest number for three years. Mixed quality young cattle were well supplied, and cow numbers lifted close to 800 head. Most of the usual buyers were in attendance and operating very selectively. Prices across most categories generally declined, however a short supply of well-presented trade cattle sold to strong demand. A lift in the standard of the light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock resulted in stronger average prices. Nevertheless vealer heifers and yearling heifers and other classes not meeting market specifications averaged from 20c to 50c/kg cheaper. The large selection of cows lost 16c to 20c and up to 30c/kg in places.
Calves returning to the paddock averaged 122c and made to 173c/kg. The largest numbers of vealer heifers averaged from 142c to 171c, with a handful of well-presented classes to local butchers reaching 247.2c/kg. A fairly large sample of light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 218c with a few pens reaching 245.2c, and the lesser quality lines average 139c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 15c less at 228c with some to 261.2c, and poor quality lines averaged 170c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed experienced very little change at an average of 262c with sales to 268c, withsome well-presented classes to the trade reaching 310c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers averaged in the 130c/kg range, the poorer quality lines 96c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 161c and made to 183.2c/kg. Well-presented local trade lines supplementary fed reached 262.2c, and some B muscle classes made to 300.2c/kg.
A handful of heavy grown steers and bullocks made to 265.2c/kg. Medium weight poor condition cows averaged 113c, and the better two scores averaged 143c and made to 159.2c/kg. Good heavy cows mostly sold around 191c with sales to 199.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 206.2c/kg.
TOOWOOMBA
THE supply of stock climbed to the highest level since April 16 last year at 1,708 head. A fair panel of buyers was present and operating in a much cheaper market. Overall quality of the young cattle was very mixed and heavy grown steers and bullocks were scarce, however there was a good sample of cows. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 34c cheaper and poor quality lines decreased 41c/kg. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed were the least affected to average 13c/kg less. Light weight yearling heifers experienced prices decreases of 38c to 50c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed sold to a market 31c/kg cheaper. All classes of cows eased in price by 20c to 28c/kg.
A few calves sold to restockers at an average of 162c and poor quality lines averaged 98c/kg. A couple of outstanding vealer steers with showing potential made to 690c/kg. A large sample of light weight yearling steers returned to the paddock at an average of 209c, with sales to 250.2c, and poor quality lines averaged 135c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 266.2c to average 229c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 248.2c to average 238c, and some local trade lines
made to 252.2c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers averaged from 138c to 160c, with some to 187.2c, and the lesser quality lines averaged 88c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 210c to average 177c, with a few to the trade reaching 210.2c/kg.
A small selection of medium and heavy weight longhorn steers sold to trophy collectors at a top of 298.2c to average 250c/kg. A few full mouth bullocks made to 201.2c/kg. Plain condition medium weight cows sold to restockers at an average of 134c, and medium weight two scores to processors averaged 151c/kg. The best of the medium weights averaged 186c and made to 199.2c/kg. Most good heavy cows sold for approximately 193c, with the occasional sale to 220.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 238.2c/kg.

CATTLE were drawn from Theodore, Gogango, Lowmead, Childers, Bororen, Stonelands, Mundubbera, Tansey, Monto, Lower Wonga, Windera, Booubyjan, Hervey Bay, Mt Perry, Gin Gin, Gayndah, Bundaberg, Rosedale, Bucca, Maryborough, and all local areas.
Two and four tooth droughtmaster bullocks from Gayndah sold for 265c/$1498. Two and four tooth brahman bullocks from Biggenden sold for 260c/$1346. Four tooth braford cross bullocks from Binjour sold for 265c/$1735. Four and six tooth bullocks from Monto sold for 267c/$1652.
Two and four tooth charbray heifers from Gayndah sold for 239c/$1211. Four and six tooth red brahman heifers from Theodore sold for 243c/$1177.

MURGON
750 WERE yarded in Murgon this week with prices for all descriptions cheaper on the previous sale. The market is struggling under the sheer weight of numbers created by dry conditions.
Heavy bulls sold to $2.30 and $1830. Bullocks topped at $2.52c/kg for $1530. Cows over 500kg sold to $1.97 c/kg. Cows 400 – 500kg sold to $1.80c/kg. Lighter cows under 400kg struggled to $1.40 c/kg. Export heifers topped at $2.20c/kg for $1170. Cattle were drawn from Eidsvold, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Mt Perry, Yarraman, Nanango, Kingaroy and locally.
