Artists prepare for festival

-

AFTER watching the artists’ efforts at the final Curious Cultivations workshop, Curious Arts Festival co-director Ruth Atkinson is excited about the inaugural festival next week.

Brisbane artists and Prying Eye directors Lizzie and Zaimon Vilmanis have been travelling to Toowoomba to teach artists how to collaborate with each other for art.

Ms Atkinson said the artists who had been working with the couple would collaboratively work together at the Garden of Curiosity at the festival.

“It was great to watch the participants of the workshop enjoy themselves at the workshop on Saturday,” she said.

“The workshops were designed to teach the students to grow their own unique form of art in a collaborative process.”

The Garden of Curiosity exhibit is a mix of an installation, pop-up performance and creative playground which provides an opportunity for artists and audience members to interact.

Ms Atkinson said she was excited about the festival’s start next weekend.

“It’s very exciting because we have been working on it for more than 18 months - from the point of concept over a cup of coffee all the way through to gathering funding and artists,” she said.

“We are now down to the fine details which are all coming together now.”

The festival will be held at the Empire Theatre on March 15 and March 16.
