How Do they Do it? Discovery Science 616, 4.30pm

After watching this series you may never look at ordinary objects in the same way again. A tube of toothpaste? Car tyres? Tea bags? A lot of technology goes into even the simplest of consumer goods, and this program offers viewers a glimpse at just what that entails. Season 15 will take a look at the humble origins of a whole host of objects, including nail clippers, macaroons, uranium, luxury watches, soy sauce, sushi, paper fans, chandelier­s and more. They’ll even look at the boozy beginnings of gin! Now if that’s not a reason to tune in, what is?

catching a Killer: a bullet through the window Crime + Investigat­ion 609, 8.30pm

In the early hours of the morning, a teenager is shot dead when a bullet is fired through an open window in a quiet suburban street. With the suspect at large and a live firearm missing, time is of the essence, but is there more to this crime than first meets the eye? This gripping series give viewers extraordin­ary access to the Thames Valley Police’s investigat­ion in the UK, as they search for answers to a senseless murder. Was it all an accident at the end of the day? Or was something more sinister at play? All will be revealed tonight.

cycling - 2019 season Eurosport 511, 11.30pm

During March and April each year the world’s best sprinters, the stars of the Classics and a whole host of Grand Tour riders converge to compete in some of the most prestigiou­s cycling battles of the year across Italy, France, the Netherland­s and Belgium. The eight races are broken into three categories: the Spring Classics, the Cobbled Classics and the Ardennes Classics. All the action kicks off today in Tuscany with the Strade Bianche – Eroica Pro, and will be followed by the Milan-San Remo on March 23. Make sure you get behind Aussie duo Caleb Ewan and Michael Matthews who will headline the action. Tune in as Eurosports delivers all the action live and ad-free.

insane pools: deeper Dive Discovery Channel 612, 7.30pm

Follow award-winning pool designer Lucas Congdon and his crew as they turn run-of-the-mill backyards into stunning oases in this addictive series chockfull of big dreams, challengin­g clients, impossible building sites and insane pools! In tonight’s season two debut the crew attempts to bring the jungle to life in a suburban backyard. If you thought that was fun, there’s plenty more where that came from. Later in the season Congdon and his gang of merry mates will turn a Florida backyard into a Mexican resort in Florida, venture to Alabama to build the lifelong dream pool for a retiring military couple, and turn a neglected backyard into a – wait for it – waterpark wonderland. Isn’t it nice to see how the other half live?

The nutcracker and the Four realms Foxtel Store, On Demand

All Clara (Mackenzie Foy, below) wants is the key to unlock a box left to her from her late mother. But things are easier said than done in this Disney fantasy. You see, Clara’s adventures uncover what’s in ‘the box’ will take her on quite the journey, where she’ll meet a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice, the regents who preside over the Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets and the unforgivin­g tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren). Expect mind-blowing special effects in this modern day odyssey reminiscen­t of Alice in Wonderland that stars Morgan Freeman, Jack Whitehall, Richard E. Grant, Matthew MacFadyen and Keira Knightley.
