Junior clinic to kick in for 2019

Both beginners and return players alike can help prepare for their 2019 season with some useful tips at next month’s junior rugby skills clinic in Toowoomba.

The Queensland Rugby Union clinic will be held at Queens Park (cnr Hume and Godsall Sts) on Saturday, April 6.

The program runs from 9am to 2pm with tuition from QRU developmen­t staff and two Queensland Red players.

Cost is $60 which includes a rugby pack, and one free family pass for new participan­ts to a St. George Queensland Reds home game.

Skills coached on the day include:

■ Movement patterns

■ Catch/pass

■ Kicking

■ Pre and post connect

■ Defensive connection drills

■ Tackling

■ Tracking skills ■ Break-down drills and

■ Game-sense

drills (broken play) QRU Darling Downs developmen­t officer Aaron Palmer said the clinic was planned as multi purpose.

“Children of all abilities are welcome on the day,” Palmer said. “The five-hour clinic is about kids having fun, learning how to safely participat­e in rugby and making new friends.

“A big priority is on safety with added emphasis on helping make rugby safe and enjoyable.

“The day should help provide some extra confidence for the players heading into the new junior rugby season starting on April 27.”
