TENPIN: Building on their 2018 success, Sunset Superbowl is preparing for another big year. After hosting the TBAQ State Championships last year, the state-of-the-art centre will host two more major tournaments. Later this month the centre will be home to the 2019 Adult and Youth State Championships before the ATBSO National Seniors Challenge in August. With hundreds of bowlers expected to compete in both tournaments, it is a real feather in Toowoomba and Sunset Superbowl’s cap, according to centre manager Trent Bosel. “We’re very excited to be hosting these events,” Bosel said. “We put a tender in for these events every year – they look at the quality of your facility, availability and a number of other factors.

“It’s a great opportunity for us.”

Queensland’s best bowlers will be hitting the lanes during the tournaments with more than 500 seniors (players aged 45 and over) expected to be in action for the ATBSO event.

“It will be fantastic watching how it all unfolds during the competitions,” Bosel said.

“Some of Queensland’s best bowlers will be competing so the atmosphere will be great. We’ll have quite a few Toowoomba bowlers competing – hopefully one of them will be able to bring home a medal.”

Toowoomba will also host the TBAQ State Awards in conjunction with the adult and youth championships to celebrate the sporting achievements of its members and honour its volunteers.

“Acknowledging the invaluable support given to our sport by volunteers is incredibly important and never under-estimated,” TBAQ vice-president Morty Douglass said.

“We’re equally proud of our army of volunteers as the high achievers in our sport - they work tirelessly behind the scenes in numerous roles and our awards ceremony is an opportunity to show how much their efforts are appreciated.”
