Fresh food at new grocer to tantalise your tastebuds

THE meals in the cabinet at Toowoomba’s newest grocer and cafe are enough to make your mouth water.

James Street Grocer opened on Friday, and already owner Ash Forbes is run off his feet with sell-out days.

Mr Forbes said he prided himself on offering seasonal and locally sourced ingredients.

He creates indulgent yet healthy meals with the store’s motto “you only live once so eat well.”

There is no seating in-store and no coffee on offer, and this is due to wanting to focus on gourmet takeaway “food to go.”

Mr Forbes had to change his opening date a few times, due to setbacks out of his control, however since opening last week he said it had been a crazy but fun few days.

“We specialise in indulgent but healthy breakfasts, brunches and lunches as well as gourmet take home dinners and catering,” he said.

Recent items on offer include fig and blue cheese tartlets, Belgian chocolate and coffee tart and Mediterranean cous cous.

“Toowoomba has a population of well-travelled people with a great taste for fresh food,” Mr Forbes said.

“Consumers are aware of value for money and people want great tasting food made from fresh quality local produce. We believe James Street is a great location for our concept store as more than 30,000 motorists travel on the street daily.”

James Street Grocer is at 209 James St, near Tradelink and is open seven days a week.
