Stroke supporters donate final piece of equipment to rehab unit
VOLUNTEERS of the Toowoomba Rehabilitation Unit Support Team (TRUST) will be lending their helping hands for the final time this month with a donation of a tilt-table to assist the rehabilitation and recovery of stroke patients undergoing physiotherapy treatment at the Toowoomba Hospital Rehabilitation Unit.
Founded in 1988 by stroke survivors and carers, TRUST has helped to fund several new pieces of equipment through the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation for the Toowoomba Hospital, raising an incredible $76,642 in their years of operation.
The new tilt-table will allow physiotherapists to optimise the acute rehabilitation of patients post stroke, spinal cord injury or severely deconditioned patients with impaired lower limb strength.
After many years of support, TRUST have decided that this donation will be their final one making the tough decision to dissolve the group.
Toowoomba Hospital Foundation CEO Alison Kennedy said the foundation, patients and staff of the Toowoomba Rehabilitation Unit are grateful for the support TRUST has provided over the years.
“The TRUST was established before the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation and they have been a wonderful support network for patients of stroke,” she said.
“Their funding activities have made a real difference in the lives of people who need rehabilitation care and this new tilt-table will continue to help allied health staff in the treatment of stroke patients for many years to come.
“Thirty years of support is an incredible achievement and we’re proud to be able to continue their legacy through funding life-changing equipment and programs for the Toowoomba Hospital Rehabilitation Unit.”
