CRICKET: Northern Brothers Diggers head into its semi final against University with a ton of confidence ahead of the weekend’s play.

Diggers has had the wood over Uni this season, recording two wins from as many games.

A first innings win or draw will be enough to see them progress to next weekend’s final against Western Districts.

Chris Hall is a vital part of the Diggers batting line-up, and said his side would look to come out and play positive cricket, as they hope to keep their chances of back-to-back titles alive.

“There are a few key wickets in the University team, like Bryce Prieve and Hamel Shah,” Hall said.

“In saying that we have a plan for every batsmen, and we won’t be taking anyone lightly. We’ve sat down and worked on plans.

“With the bat we are going to try and be positive, and work out when to attack certain bowlers.”

The last time these two teams met, Diggers opening innings total of 157 proved enough, as their bowlers were able to restrict University to just 101.

‘‘ WITH THE BAT WE ARE GOING TO TRY AND BE POSITIVE, AND WORK OUT WHEN TO ATTACK CERTAIN BOWLERS.

However, Hall said that encounter is a distant memory,

“We’d like to think we can score more than 150 this time,” he said.

“Dane Hutchinson bowled really well that game, and that mightn’t happen again, so we have to stick to our plan and our areas.

“We have to forget about that last game. We’re up against a whole new scenario. It would be nice to roll them cheaply but we can’t guarantee that.”

Northern Brothers were able to secure valuable minutes in the middle against Metropolitan-Easts in the final round of the year, something Hall hopes puts them in good stead ahead of the weekend.

“Ideally we wanted to bat a bit longer to give everyone a few balls in the middle, but we lost a few wickets,” he said.

“Blake Anderson batted well, and he’s having an unreal season, it’s probably the best I’ve seen him bat.

to have a bit of a roll, particularly the spinners because we haven’t bowled much spin in the last few games.”
