Market continues to ease

ROMA

CATTLE numbers continued to fall and were down by 1,857 to 4,461 head at the Roma Store Sale. Cattle were mostly drawn from the usual supply area and a larger panel of buyers was present with increased restocker presence included in the buyers panel, however not all processors were operating. Steers dominated the yarding. The quality was mixed and again included larger numbers of younger cattle. Prices saw some improvemen­ts for yearling steers and heifers. Cows, however, mostly continued to drop. Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers rose by 5c to 10c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed rose by 7c/kg. However, heavy weight yearling steers to feed fell by 1c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers rose by 4c to 8c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400 kg to feed rose by 14c/kg. Medium weight two score cows were back by 9c, while the limited numbers of medium weight three score cows dropped by 13c/kg. Heavy weight three score cows were back by 17c/kg.

Calves to restockers made to 260c to average 205c/kg. Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers sold to 256.2c to average 239c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 263.2c to average 252c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to a top of 263.2c to average 253c/kg. A sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers sold to 190.2c to average 176c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed sold to 209.2c to average 195c/kg.

The largest sample of medium weight two score cows sold to 139.2c to average 113c, while the medium weight three score cows made to a top of 160.2c to average 142c/kg. Heavy weight three score cows made to 168.2c to average 149c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls 256.2c to average 231c/kg.

WARWICK

NUMBERS reduced by 591 head to 1,972, and cows continued to come forward in large numbers, and in line with the dry season the vast majority were in the lower fat scores. A fair panel of buyers was present and operating. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 21c/kg less. A short supply of medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed eased 14c to 16c/kg. Vealer heifers and light weight yearling heifers experience­d fair demand for the quality penned. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed received a small improvemen­t. Poor condition cows averaged 3c to 8c cheaper, while the better end of the cows decreased 17c to 20c/kg.

Mixed sex calves returning to the paddock average 131c and made to 159.2c/kg. A small number of vealer steers averaged close to 250c/kg. The largest sample of vealer heifers primarily sold from 142c to 150c, with the occasional sale to the trade reaching 239.2c/kg. Light weight yearling steers to restockers averaged 197c and made to 235.2c, and the lesser quality lines averaged 137c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 248.2c to average 213c, and heavy weights to feed made to 250.2c to average 244c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers averaged 128c and made to 152.2c/kg. Medium weights to feed average 163c

and made to 185c/kg. Heavy yearling heifers certified grain fed made to 240.2c to average 222c/kg.

The occasional heavy grown steer sold to the wholesale meat trade at 269.2c, and a small number of bullocks to export processor made to 244.2c/kg. Full mouth bullocks averaged 214c and made to 218.2c/kg. Light weight poor condition cows averaged 54c and the medium weights averaged 110c/kg. Medium weight two scores averaged 126c and made to 138c/kg. A fair sample of good heavy cows made to 180.2c to average 171c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 228.2c/kg.

TOOWOOMBA

NUMBERS reduced to a third of the previous week’s sale, to 666 head. Mixed quality young cattle were in the largest numbers, along with a small selection of heavy grown steers and bullocks, and a fair sample of cows. Most of the usual buyers were in attendance and operating. Restockers were more active on the light weight yearling steers, which saw average prices increase by 17c/kg, with some of the improvemen­ts due to the better quality. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed experience­d fair demand. Light weight yearling heifers received stronger competitio­n from restockers and background­ers. Cows generally sold to a cheaper trend, easing from 20c to 30c/kg.

Male calves returning to the paddock made to 270c and mixed sex calves averaged 119c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers to average 226c, with the occasional pen making to 239c, while the poor quality lines sold to 153c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 227c and made to 240c, with medium steers to the trade making to 249c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 258c, to average 254c/kg. The better end of the light weight yearling heifers sold from 130c to 149c, while poor quality lines averaged from 73c to 88c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 147c and made to 158c, while a couple to the trade averaged 175c/kg. A small number of well bred heavy weights to the trade made to 240c/kg.

Heavy grown steers and bullocks averaged 240c, with some bullocks to 255c/kg. Poor condition cows averaged 121c, and the better two scores averaged 132c/kg. A line of good heavy cows made to 173c, to average 169c, while heavy bulls made to 224c/kg.

DALBY

A COMBINATIO­N of cheaper prices the previous sale and the forecast of some rain reduced the supply of stock to half of the previous week’s level to 2,997 at Dalby this. Prices responded to the short supply and medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 18c/kg better. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 14c/kg dearer. Heavy grown steers and bullocks generally experience­d very little change in price. Neverthele­ss, a lift in quality improved average prices in places. Cows sold to a dearer trend to average 4c to 7c/kg dearer.

C2 yearling steers to restockers made from 220.2c to 249.2c, averaging 239.5c to be 6c/kg dearer. C2 yearling heifers to feed made from 137.2c to 181.2c to average 172.8c, representi­ng an increase of 14c/kg. Grown C4 steers made from 238.2c to 262.2c, averaging 248.8c, up 8c/kg. Grown D3 heifers made from 158.2c to 190c, averaging 166.9c, less 12c/kg. C4 manufactur­ing steers made 224.2c/kg. D4 cows made from 167.2c to 190.2c, averaging 178.5c and 4c/kg better. C3 bulls sold from 210.2c to 240c to average 226.4c, up 24c/kg.
