TITLE WIN IS ONE FOR THE BOOKS
Toowoomba student on winning roll
GOLF: Kam Dunemann’s skilful juggling of school and a budding golf career has reaped another reward with a booming club championship victory now on her scorecard.
In a week to remember for Dunemann, the 15-year-old Grade 11 TACAPS student became the 2019 City Golf Club open ladies champion one day after she claimed the Darling Downs & South West Queensland 13-19 year’s title.
Her twin success completed a unique family double after her 16-year-old step-brother Quinn Croker won his third successive Toowoomba Golf Club open championship at the weekend.
Dunemann set the scene for her title double on Monday when she returned a one-overpar score of 74 at her home Toowoomba Golf Club to win her third successive Downs girls’ championship.
She was beaten by one stroke for the overall title by Croker.
On Tuesday Dunemann completed her 24-stroke City victory with rounds of 80, 73 and 82 in what was her first club championship attempt.
The tournament was reduced to 54 holes after one round was lost to wet weather.
Dunemann only recently resumed playing after being sidelined for seven months with a knee injury.
She attributes much of her good return form to new coach Chris Gibson and the support of her school.
“I’ve been seeing a new coach, Chris Gibson, in Brisbane which has really helped me improve,” Dunemann said.
“I’m definitely getting back in my mojo after having seven months out with a knee injury.
“My school has definitely helped me in my sport as well.
“I’m lucky I have the opportunity to come here.
“The school wants us to achieve academically and also strive in our sport which is really good because I get opportunities to go and play all these tournaments.
“It’s really benefited me. The school has definitely been a big supporter of my golf.”
Dunemann has been selected in the Queensland Development squad and will represent Golf Queensland next month at the Australian Girl’s Amateur Championships.
“Then I have the Easter Classic at Middle Ridge,“Dunemann said.
“And then straight after the school holidays we have our state trials.”
