Cow prices lift up to 54c/kg

ROMA

CATTLE numbers fell after recent patchy rainfall over the supply area, down from 2248 head to 2213 head at the Roma Store Sale.

Cattle were drawn from the usual supply area and a good panel of buyers was present and saw increased restocker competitio­n for heifers.

Steers dominated the yarding and the overall quality was mixed.

Prices rose markedly across most categories.

Lightweigh­t yearling steers under 280kg to restockers rose by 20c/kg.

Lightweigh­t yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers rose by 17-24c/kg.

Medium weight two score cows rose by 38c/kg, while medium weight three score cows rose by 46c/kg.

Heavy weight 3 score cows rose by 54c/kg.

Lightweigh­t yearling steers under 280kg to restockers sold to 276.2c/kg to average 259c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 280.2c/kg to average 263c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 266.2c/kg to average 260c/kg.

Lightweigh­t yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers sold to 210.2c/kg to average 201c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed sold to 234.2c/kg to average 226c/kg.

Medium weight two score cows sold to 196.2c/kg to average 151c/kg while the medium weight three score cows made to a top of 200.2c/kg to average 188c/kg.

Heavy weight three score cows made to 211.2c/kg to average 202c/kg.

WARWICK

RAIN across the local area reduced the supply of stock to close to 1/3 of the previous week.

A fair panel of buyers was present.

Prices responded with improvemen­ts of 20-35c/kg fairly common across the young cattle.

Lightweigh­t yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 29c/kg dearer, and medium weight yearling steers to feed sold to a market 36c/kg better.

Most of the yearling heifers experience­d similar improvemen­ts.

All classes of cows were dearer with gains of over 50c/kg in places.

Steer calves returned to the paddock at 237.2c/kg to average 232c/kg, and heifer calves averaged 175c/kg.

Vealer heifers to feed averaged 172c/kg, and a couple to the trade made to 261.2c/kg.

Lightweigh­t yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 226c/kg with sales to 240c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 248c/kg and made to 260c/kg, with some to the trade reaching 265c/kg.

A handful of heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 264c/kg and made to 268.2c/kg, with the occasional sale to trade at 270c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged close to 189c/kg and made to 206.2c/kg, while local trade lines averaged 225c/kg and made to 255.2c/kg.

TOOWOOMBA

USEFUL falls of rain across the usual supply areas reduced numbers to 317 head.

Mixed quality young cattle were in the largest numbers, along with a small sample of cows, and no heavy grown steers and bullocks. Buyer attendance was good.

Prices for young cattle responded to the rain and the shorter supply and lifted by 14-30c/kg and up to 40c/kg in places.

Cows also sold to a dearer trend, with improvemen­ts of 40-50c/kg fairly common.

Steer calves made to 274.2c/kg to average 252c/kg, with mixed sex calves making about 151c/kg.

The occasional vealer steer with showing potential made to 300c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 18c/kg better to receive 244c/kg, with sales to 260.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 14c/kg dearer, making to 240c/kg, with sales to 257.2c/kg.

A small number of heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 259.2c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers improved by 30c/kg to average 173c/kg, with sales to 192.2c/kg.

A couple of outstandin­g medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 240.2c/kg, with the remainder close to 189c/kg.

A small number of heavy weight yearling heifers sold to the trade at 228.2c/kg.

Light weight poor condition cows averaged 112c/kg, and medium weight 2 scores averaged 174c/kg, making to 186.2c/kg.

Good heavy cows made to 224.2c/kg to average 223c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 224.2c/kg.

DALBY

NUMBERS reduced from 1632 head to 4629 at Dalby.

Export buyer attendance was good and not all were operating.

There was a return of a feeder operator in the yearling heifer section.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 2-3c/kg dearer and heavy weight yearling steers to feed average 7c/kg better.

However, medium weight yearling heifers to feed were over 40c/kg dearer.

A small sample of heavy grown steers and bullocks gained a few cents.

Cows were well supplied and plain conditione­d cows improved by over 40c/kg, while good heavy cows averaged 29c/kg better.

C4 yearling steers to feed, weighing 330-400kg, made from 227.2-264.2c/kg, averaging 251.6c/kg to be 3c/kg dearer.

Same weight C3 yearling heifers to feed sold from 226.2-240.2c/kg, averaging 236.9c/kg, up 43c/kg.

C4 grown steers made from 250-264.2c/kg, averaging 257.1c/kg.

C4 grown heifers received from 221.2-235.2c/kg, averaging 228.7c/kg, up 1c/kg.

D2 manufactur­ing steers sold for 209.2c/kg.

Heavy weight D4 cows sold from 193.2-228.2c/kg, averaging 209.3c/kg to be 29c/kg better.

C3 bulls made from 232.2-258.2c/kg, averaging 257.2c/kg, up 10c/kg.

BIGGENDEN

BURNETT Livestock & Realty’s meatworks and store sale on Monday saw a rain reduced yarding of 621 head.

The market was optimistic on the back of some rain.

Cattle were drawn from Theodore, Biloela, Gogango, Lowmead, Childers, Mundubbera, Proston, Monto, Hervey Bay, Mt Perry, Gin Gin, Gayndah, Bundaberg, Bucca, Maryboroug­h and all local areas.

Four and six tooth brahman cross bullocks from Teebar sold for 280c/kg.

Red brahman two and four tooth bullocks from Wallaville sold for 271c/kg.

Four and six tooth grey brahman bullocks from Biggenden sold for 267c/kg.

Four and six tooth droughtmas­ter heifers from Teebar sold for 257c/kg.

Black baldy cows from Gin Gin sold for 213c/kg.

Heavy santa gertrudis cows from Bucca sold for 209c/kg.

Droughtmas­ter cross cows from Mundubbera sold for 208c/kg.

Black angus cows from Wallaville sold for 199c/kg.

Brahman cross cows from Hervey Bay sold for 205c/kg.

Milk and two tooth red brangus steers from Rosedale sold for 252c/kg.

Milk tooth droughtmas­ter steers from Gin Gin sold for 255c/kg.

Two and four tooth brahman cross steers from Ban Ban Springs sold for 274c/kg.

Droughtmas­ter weaner steers from Theodore sold for 260c/kg.
