Beloved Toowoomba sewing store seeks passionate buyer

A BELOVED sewing and quilting store in Toowoomba is hitting the market with owner Marilyn Kirstenfeldt saying it’s time to move on.

Mrs Kirstenfeldt’s store MK’S Sew-Able has been a destination of choice for sewers and quilters in the Garden City for almost 15 years.

But after a spell of bad health and at 65, she said it was time to refocus on her family and home, listing her business for sale.

“I created it in 2005, started from scratch selling Singer sewing machines and just added on and added on,” she said.

“In 2007, I was offered the opportunity to sell PFAFF sewing machines and it has just been growing and growing since then.”

The business relocated to Prescott St at the end of 2007, carrying with it loyal customers and clients and creating a solace of sorts for people visiting loved ones in Toowoomba Hospital.

It’s that community connection, and the passion her customers have in the various crafts, that Mrs Kirstenfeldt said she would miss the most.

“It’s continuously busy,” she said.

“I’m going on 65 and it’s time for me and I’m really wanting to sell it.

“There’s so many women out there who have so much craft enthusiasm and quilting enthusiasm it would be a shame not to get someone who shares that same passion.

“It will be wrenching when the time comes but I’m really hoping we will find someone out there who has the passion we have, who wants to share it with people, but also be their own boss.”

Mrs Kirstenfeldt said there had been a resurgence in the sewing and quilting scene in recent years.

“Toowoomba has a lot of artists and they put that into their work.

“The sewing machine becomes their pencil.”

MK’S Sew-Able is for sale for $5000 plus stock at valuation.
