RUGBY LEAGUE: Local fans will have the chance to see both Western Mustangs sides in town for the first time this season.

The two sides will welcome the Sunshine Coast Falcons to Gold Park, with both coming off contrasting build-ups.

The Hastings Deering Colts U20s were thrashed in Townsville by the Pride, and are desperate to get off the mark in round three.

“We’ve been on the road the last two weeks and this will be a bit easier on ourselves as a group,” coach Eugene Seddon said.

“It’s nice to be home and have our first game in front of a home crowd.

“Last week was disappointing. We were down 22-8 with 20 minutes to go and then it blew out. We identified between the 10 and 20 minute mark that we allowed them into the game with poor discipline.

“An 8-2 penalty country at half-time, coupled with travel, got us in the end with fatigue. In saying that, there were areas of our game we weren’t good enough in.

“This year we’ve conceded nine of 13 tries through the middle, so we need to aim up defensively.”

In the Mal Meninga Cup, the Mustangs U18s can bring up back-to-back wins if they beat the Sunshine Coast.

They produced a stunning comeback, overturning a 10point deficit to pip the Pride in the dying stages. Games start at 12.25pm tomorrow.
