Mr Marbellouz finishes strong to secure win

- GLEN MCCULLOUGH

RACING: Toowoomba fiveyear-old Mr Marbellouz put his Queensland Winter Racing Carnival campaign back on track with a welcome return to winning form at Doomben on Saturday.

Mr Marbellouz ($2.05 fav) landed his eighth career win from 15 starts for trainer Kevin Kemp in the Listed Ascot Handicap (1200m).

Mr Marbellouz finished determinedly for apprentice Baylee Nothdurft to down Sony Legend ($31) by a short-half head on the heavy 10 surface.

The win was Nothdurft’s first Listed race victory as he continues his climb in the Queensland ranks and provided his large group of owners with some consolation following his unplaced effort in this month’s Listed Weetwood Handicap at Clifford Park.

Toowoomba two-year-old Gem Of Scotland ($3.30) kept her unbeaten record intact at Doomben with a commanding win for trainer Rex Lipp in the Two-Year-Old Plate (1200m).

Gem Of Scotland scored running away by 61⁄2 lengths for jockey Jimmy Orman from 2.35 favourite How wonderful life is.

The victory was the filly’s fourth from four career starts.
